Excellent kayaking/boating is available around
the Sea Colony/Palm Coast Community.
Bing's Landing
Bings Landing, which is located nearly across the street
from the front gate of Sea Colony, is a popular site for boating--and kayaking.
You can also picnic and watch the yachts cruise the intracoastal
waterway.
By kayak, it's a quick trip across the Matanzas River to the bird
sanctuary. In moments you're gliding through the mangrove
tunnels in old-time Florida. And Bings seems to go on
forever. In fact, if you have the temperament, you can kayak
all the way from Bings up to
Princess Place Preserve or Matanza's inlet.
Kayaking is beautiful at Bing's Landing. You can easily
cross the Intercoastal and enter the shallow wetlands. Be
mindful of the tide.
Princess Place Preserve
From Sea Colony, you can reach the
Preserve in about 20 minutes; it requires going back over the
toll bridge and then taking Old King's Road. Here's a pic of
the
turn in off of Old King's Road. As you drive in, about two
miles on a dirt road, you feel like you're going back in time...
Loads of deer.
- By Car. . . you can simply drive through
the park and observe the deer, eagles, hawks. Remarkably,
parking lots are adjacent to the waterways.
- By Bike. . . Biking is excellent at
Princess Place. Take the dirt road out to the equestrian camping
area. Beyond that are miles of trails that you can explore--so
long as the horses aren't around. They don't talk about biking
on the county sites but this is mountain biker friendly--and
there's loads of shade.
- By Kayak. Princes Place is an excellent
place for kayaking.
- For the main entry point, follow the signs to the boat
launch. That will take you to the main lanuncing site for
kayaks. If you don't have your own, call ahead to Tropical
Kayaks: 386 445 0506 . Once you're in
the water, go left out to the mouth of the river and then
cirlce back to the right and down into the wetalnds.
- If you don't like it muddy and want a more sandy put-in
for your kayaks, go to the "Dock Sites." This will take you
to a less interesting place on the river, but beautiful,
nonetheless.
- By Camping (horses optional). Call to
reserve your space (ask for Moody
2): 386 313 4020, Flager County Parks and
Recreation, 1769 E. Moody Blvd., Bldg #5, Bunnell, FL.
The park rangers work hard on this park. They cut its enormous
grounds, including the equestrian trails. They also offer a
tour of the lodge, which was builty in 1886 through 1887s. The
exterior of the building is in remarkable shape, thanks to it's
cement construction. The kitchen and dining room are separated
from main part of the home w/ a breezeway.
